Chênedouit

What's up in the country, you may be asking?

To my astonishment, quite a lot considering it's like the Sahara desert and dry as a bone.
My onions are barely bigger than when I planted them, nothing like Mom's neighbor Scott, but they looked dead, so I pulled them out anyways.

Chard, sunflowers, cucumbers, zucchini, zucchini and more zucchini.  I've got three enormous pumpkins, one of which I already cut off, because I don't really think it needs to get any bigger and 3 is A LOT of pumpkin tarts and soup. Butternut squash and some salad.

The other big news...
New Shutters.
We had aluminum shutters put on four of the windows.

The kitchen ones were in pretty good shape still, so last weekend we took them off,
sanded, prepped and painted them.
Now we just need to paint the window frame of the kitchen.
After looking at these photos, I realised I should really try to clean the kitchen side of the house.
Not sure if it would come clean or not, but worth a try.

Almost forgot. Stef and I stopped at the weekly farm animal auction in the nearby town.
It was strange to think that this has been going on for hundreds of years in the same way. Never afraid of looking like a fool, I asked how much a calf sells for. Anywhere from 100 - €300. So now you know.

The guys running the show still wear a black sort of lab / doctor's coat.
