Happy birthday to me!

For my birthday, Stephane treated me to an afternoon in Paris.

We went to see Christo et Jeanne-Claude's,                                                                                             Wrapped Arc de Triomphe.

The little swatch is a sample of the tissue used.                                                                                               It's blue woven plastic covered with pulverised aluminum.

In progress for 60 years...realised a little over a year after his death.                                                                                                                   Two of our favorite crazy artists....

Our first visit was at noon for about an hour an a half and then retourned at 3pm.
You can tell by the sky and the colors the change in light in a few hours.

There were 3 guys in this black van on the left. If you click on the photo you can see the close up of the driver making funny faces. It was great. I'm sure as a Parisian all the tourists must be taxing:) so it was nice to see some in a good mood.

On the right you can see the top of the Eiffle Tower...

It was awesome to see several different groups of art students sketching....

even little kids....

And here are some other highlights from our walk around the neighborhood.

A restaurant that we DID NOT eat at, but had an amazing façade.
The menu was all based around caviar. Starting menu price 65€.

This really amazing wedding dress that I would never be able to wear....
Hard to see, but the top was just a see thru lace body with a detached skirt. The mannequin was all gold.

Some crazy gladiator boots...
as crazy as the traffic leaving and coming back to Caen.
Thankfully I had my personal driver "Ricky Bobby"
a.k.a. Stéphane who totally assumed!

BUT....it was an amazing afternoon !

Sebastian's new soccer team

New club, new team.

Still easy to find my son in his yellow fluo goalie jersey.
I can't believe how old they look.
Check out the guy in the middle...already a mustache !!!

Happy Birthday Annick !

August 14th...
A very Happy Birthday to Annick!
Cote de boeuf perfectly cooked by Stephane with french fries and a chocolate b-day cake.
Followed up with some serious lawn bowling.

A hike in the woods

The last week of vacation,                                                                                                                              Seb and I went on a nice hike about a 10 minute drive from home.

After finally finding the place and not breaking down,                                                                                 we spent a great morning and had a nice picnic before heading back to civilization.

These stone quarries date back from the XI century.                                                                                    They were used for stone excavation  (which went to build the church pictured below).
In the XX century the stone excavation became a thing of the past and
the caverns were used for growing mushrooms.

During WW2, the German army stocked their amunition here,
residents took refugue here during the D-Day assults
and the caverns which went on for several kilometers were also used by
the Canadian army as a place to get some R&R.

Chênedouit

We spent a great weekend at Chênedouit before going back to work and school.

Seb invited his friend Charlie. They slept in the tent, ate like carnivores, shot the BB guns and hiked along the river. Everyone went home with smiles.

The weekend after we were a foster family for some chickens.
Our neighbor's hens were more than curious and stuck around for two days...
even venturing into the kitchen.

Summer Vacation

It was soo very good to see everyone again....

Seb getting a feel for steering....
and he recovered nicely after almost crashing us into shore:)

                                                                       The warm up,

followed by the BIG ONE.

Grandma was nice enough to take us to the Milw Public Museum.
And took all necessary precautions.......

We still managed to loose the kids in The Streets of Old Milwaukee.

After recovering all three, we had a nice picnic at the lakefront.

Catching up with Marie and the family.

                                                             George (Gregory) and Ashlyn

Wouldn't be a trip home without bowling....

and this year we tried and lost                                                                                                                       ....the GIANT CLAW

Working on that tan.....

Goofin' off....
